The Coming Optical Reboot

There is much noise in the industry around OTN and packet-optical transport systems right now. Infonetics Research, as well as other analysts, predicts strong growth for packet-enabled transport systems.  As Infonetics puts it, there is a coming optical reboot.  At Xelerated, we expect annual growth to be +30% for the next coming years, driven mainly by demands in mobile data.

New packet-optical transport systems are being designed to accommodate cost-effective, yet flexible aggregation of 10GE to 40GE and 100GE. This is a sweet spot market for wirespeed network processors, like the Xelerated HX family.  Programmability enables continuous support to service provider’s evolving set of packet processing requirements while wirespeed guarantees, inherently supported by Xelerated’s dataflow architecture, result in predictable transport traffic behavior.

We look forward to hearing and seeing more interest in the “coming optical reboot!”
